Hammerli 208 Serial Numbers

So i found what I thought was a great deal on an XD45 Tactical Saturday. Looks like new in box, doesn't appear to have been fired. Get it home and do a 'clean and inspect'. Fired brass in envelope shows a test fire date of 02 13 07. Great, almost a new gun. Then when I get it all back together, I notice that the serial number on the slide an barrel match the serial number on the 'test brass' envelope. But lo and behold, the serial number on the plate n the frame is different.Paperwork where I bought it shows the serial number matching the frame, which I understand is correct.

Obviously the frame has been replaced for some reason. Sent an email to Springfield but have had no response yet. Just seems really unusual for a gun that is less than three months old to have the frame replace. And sure wish my dealer would have told me before I bought it.Anybody run into this before? Should I worry about the function/reliability of the gun with a different frame? What about resale value, would you pay as much for a gun with mismatched numbers? Thanx for any input.

Thanx for any input. I see it this way. The serial number on the frame is for the benefit of the FEDS and the manufacturer. The marking on the barrel and slide are of no value and more of the European requirement. In short, if the gun runs fine, you are set to go. You can contact SA and make sure they will still warranty the gun, with the mismatch parts. They may say no, and I would appreciate that answer.

In the end, it is a XD and your problems will be far and few. I have NEVER had a single XD fail that I could not handle. If a gun store sold the gun as NEW I think you should go back and explain it sure as hell didn't leave the factory with mismatched SN's and you'd like to return it.They will refuse (trust me) and you can send a letter to your state's Attorney General with full details and documentation. Be SURE to send a full copy to the gun store, then wait for their phone call asking if you would like a refund or a replacement.I've seen guns in the display case at sleezy stores that appear to be new but really aren't. When I asked 'Is this new', they would say 'Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is' but never say Yes or No.Did I mention I hate salesmen? I do and with good reason.

Are you sure you are looking at the correct plate on the frame? There are 4 places where you XD is numbered. There is the SN on the barrel, slide, and plate on the bottom of the frame just forward of the trigger guard. Those 3 numbers should match. There is also a plate inside of the frame (looking down after removing the slide) that will have a number on it. This is not the serial number and has nothing to do with the other 3 matching numbers. It is possible that you do have a mismatched frame and slide, but I have seen other people raise this question and it turned out that they were simply looking at the wrong plate on their frame.

First, I am positive the numbers are different. The number on the plate on the frame is the number used on my receipt. No it was not represented to me as new.

I knew it was used. But I bought it from a dealer I have dealt with for many years and if I had been told it had mismatched numbers, I would have passed. Yes, it is my 'fault' for not checking close enough.I just find it very odd that the gun was only 21/2 months old and has had the frame replaced.

And the slide and barrel have no wear or marks. I commented when looking at it that it looked like it had never even been sho and the dealer said 'it hasn't'. I haven't had a chance to call him yet and see his story (it was one rotten day at work). I just have the feeling that if I ever go to trade this in or sell it, when I get to the part where I mention the two different numbers, either they wil no longer want it, or it will suddenly be 'worth less because of that'.Even though I admit that I shoud have 'caught it' prior to buying, I find it hard to believe that a dealer would have had this in and on his books and never noticed the numbers being different. I feel this is something that should have been brought to the attention of a buyer. A gun that is presented as 'mint' and mentioned that it had 'never been fired', to me carries a certain expectation of at least being a 'whole' gun.
